EASTOWN r. WANGANUI,

The final between the winner*- of tliio Thursday and_Saturday competitions wasplayed on the Racecourse .yesterday afternoon. Great interest was taken in th:s match, and there was a very large attendance of the pubic. Easto'V.n won tlie toss, and played wiSh the wind. From the bully Wanganui forced, but the hard hitting and daeh of the Eastown ipjayers proved too much for the combination of the Red and Blacks, and Piper, from fa&t following up, scored" for Eastown, amidst tremendous applauise. Wanganui were now on their mettle, andi play became very fast. From a pass from Holmes, Campbell placed the second goal for the Blues. Play was now even, and just on call of half time Larking scored for Wanganui, the spell ending—Eastown 2, Wanganui 1. On resuming play, Eastown. made the game fast, and their superiority was now manifested, and had Wanganui continually on the defensive. Holmes amd Campbell added to Eastown's score. Gillies, from a pass from Goss, scored for Wanganui. The game ended—-EasJtown 4, Wanganui 2. The game was undoubtedly tne fastest and best played in Wanganui, and Eastown thoroiighly deserve their win. For the winners Gurr was the best back, and was ably supported by Delves, Griffiths and Pearce in_the forwards. Piper, as centre, was always on the ball. Holmes, Gampbdll,'and MoKenzie also put in good work. For the losers Armstrong was the pick of the backs, although at first he was not playing up to form. Carrell, as full, saved his side sever^ times. The remaining backs were not equal to tne attack of the Eastown forwards^. .The forwards were outclassed for pace, and were not able to display their combination. Mr. George Carver held the whistle, and is to be congratulated' on the way he carried out "his duties. The Representative Selection Committee were, on the ground, and it is to be hoped that their previous selection will be greatly altered.
