NAPIER, '.September 11. At the Supreme Court to-day, John Cul»haw was charged with manslaughter in having killed a man named John Hutchison on Coronation Day, August 9th. The evidence showed that Culshaw had gone to where Hutchison was in conversation with some friends, and, calling him aside, had struck him on the eye. The blow caused Hutchison to fall, with the result that he sustained a fracture of the skull, which caused his 'death. For the defence it 'was alleged that Oulshaw had struck the deceased because of an insulting proposal which the latter had made to a woman' with whom Culshaw was living. The jmy returned a verdict of guilty, with a strong recommendation to mercy on the ground of provocation. Sentence was deferred until Saturday.
