Upper Wangaehu Road Board.

The ordinary monthly meeting of the Upper Wangaehu Road Board was held at Mangamahu on September 6th. Present.— Messrs Mannington (chair), Todd, Farley, Kennedy and Whiteman. Minutes. —The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE. The following letters were read: ■ — From Mr D. Leaward, re Adamson's I Ruanuft-Turakinal Road.—Resolved, That •Mr Leaward be requested to attend the | next meeting of the Board. J- From Secretary to the Treasury, stating i that the Board's application for a loan -if | £1500, for the purpose of forming Adams son's Ruanui- Turakina Roa^JMiad been provisionally approved!.—'Resolved, That Mr Frank Allen be instructed to lay off the road, and that tenders be called as soon as j possiblie. j xrom the Road Surveyor, Wanganui, ■ stating that no portion of Grants in Aid will | in future be authorised for expenditure on [ drawing up plans, specifications1, advertis- ! ing of tenders, etc., as it is considered that , these are not just charges on the grants. —- i Received. ! From; Secretary to Treasury, stating that [ Section 75, Road Boards Act, 1882, pro- ; vides that the four weeks' notification must precede the meeting at which the resolution is to be passed.—'lll© Clerk pointed out 1 that this, though clearly according to the ! Act, was the direct opposite of what the Department had alwaysl required up to the present^ as shown -b- their own forms just received for the Ruanui Loan, and that in consequence he had re-advertised the Special Orders for Addenbrooke's Bridge and 10 per cent metalling loan. From Commissioner of Taxes, stating -,that a voucher for payment of £125 subsidy due, had been forwarded to the Trea-sury-—Received. . From Messrs Christie Bros., stating that they wished to restart carting timber for j river road bridges on Ist October next. — Agreed to. The Bank certificate of balances Avas laid" on the table, showing: as follows :—General Account, Dr., £780 4s 2d; Loan Account, Cr., £86 19s 9d. On the motion of the Chairman, seconded by Mr Whitennan, it was resolved: — That* the Clerk write to the Wanganui County Council, asking it to erect a pound at Mangamahu. Cooper's Contract, Hale's Road.—(Moved by Mr Todd,. seconded by Mr Whiteman, and carried, That the matter of Cooper's contract be left with the Chairman to let at a price not to exceed the original contract, less money already paid. Taipo Creek Bridge.—Resolved That Mr Glendinning be instructed to proceed with, the erection of bridge forthwith, in terms j of his contract. Whiteman's Bridge.—The Clerk was instructed to write to the authorities, statin* that the Board will raise £250 as £1 for £1 contribution towards the erection of bridge as requested. A number of accounts were passed tor payment, and the meeting .closed.
