THE LYTTELTON GAOL TROUBLE.

CHRISTCHURCH, September 10. At Lytteltoiij to-day the prisoners Yoggan and Allandale, who Mere concerned in the recent disturbance* in gaol1, were brought before !Mr Beetham. S.M. Accused said the trouble had been caused by the tyrannical and bullying manner in which two warders had done their duty. They were so sick and tired of trying to get redress in/prison that they thought their only chance was to make a disturbance and attract the attention of the public. The gaoKer said that the prisoners 'had every opportunity of making complaints. They could complain to the visiting Justices, the official visitors, Inspector of Prisons, or the Minister of Justice. The disturbance had arisen because a mate of the accused had been punished for a breach of discipline.

Accused were sentenced to seven days' solitary confinement, iv irons, and to forfeit twelve months' marks.
