Press Association—Telegraph—Copyright, Received September 10, 10.19 a.m. SYDNEY, September 10. An inquiry was opened to-day concerning the missing steamer Quirang. Carlbon, the "donkey" man, stated that he left the vessel owing to the large quantity of water found below. Just before she sailed last voyage there was two feet of water in the hold, four feet in the engineroom, and_two feet' vi the bunkers. The hatches, too, Were open, and with heavy seas the water got below. Gardner, a fireman, said lie left the Quirang because of the water below. Smith, liate third engineer, considered the vessel to be in every way sea-worthy. Edmunds, a sailor, said he left the vessel because he did not' think her safe, and told the captain his reason. He alleges that the latter replied: "I wish I .could do the same myself." The inquiry has adjourned.
