LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL.

WELLINGTON, September 10. The Council met at 2.30. The following Bills were read a third time and passed: Wellington Harbour Board Empowering, Hawera County Electric Lighting, Dunedin. Town Belt Roads Closing and Regulating. Second readings were agreed to as folloavs : Dunedin District Drainage and Seweage Act Amendment Bill, New River Harbour Reclamation Bill, Palclutha Reserves and Empowering Bill, Maeterton Borough Betterment.Bill. The Christchurcjh Tramways District Bill was committed, and' progress was reported when the sichedulei was reached, with the object! of having1 certain amendment's defining the districts ,gone into by the Local Bills Committee.

The Statutes Compilation Bill was coimmitted and progress reported. The Hon. Jenkinson moved the second reading of the City of^Christchurch Electric Power and Loan Empowering Bill. In the course of his speech he urged that the Government should not lose sight of the fact that the State would ere many years require many rivers ira tfhe colony for the purpose of generating electricity to drive the railways, etc. The debate , was adjourned, and the Council rose at 5 p.m.
