WELLINGTON, August 18
The Chiefi Justice gave judgment on Saturday as to the right of an. ex-prisoner to «ue Dr. Tear©, gaol surgeon, for £2000 damages for alleged! unskillful treatment while in gaol. The defence contended that the action was prevented by the Statute of Limitation, over six years having elapsed, the plaintiff having been a prisoner in gaol during- that ipieriod- His1 Horor held that the convict was civilly dead while in gaol, rand the Statute of Limitations could nob therefore apply.
When Francis Thomas Moore, who pleaded guilty to writing a letter threatening to kill or do grievous bodily harm to tlie Actingi-Premier, came before the Supreme Court this morning for eent'unoe, Judge Edwards drew attention-to the fact that the plea was not endorsed on the information in prescribed form. He declined to deal with the case until tliei omiission had been remedied by the Magistrate.
AUCKLAND.. August 18. At the Supreme Court, William John Parker pleaded guilty to attempting io murder his wife, «on, and! mother-in-law. Judge Connolly said there could •. hardly bo a more horrible case, and sentenced accused .to ten yeairi' Bard labour.
Henry James Fox, accountant of the Rioads Department, Rotorua, was sentenced to eight months' imprisonment for forging and using receipts of a total of £60, of which £37 had been refunded, and falsifying books. The prisoner,' who had; p-e----viously borne an excellent character, attributes his downfall to> drink.
At the Supreme Court, Takarilu Kaupeka, charged with; attempting to inurdjer a woman named Agnesi Taihui, with whom he had been living, came up for sentence. Prisoner wa,» sentenced to «ix years' hard

INVERCARGILL, August 18,
In the Commercial Club ca«e, Arthur Plank, the stewardl, was fined one shilling and costs for selling liquor without a charter or license. His Worship said the fine was nominal, as he regarded the case
as a test one. Two young men,, for molesting a girl in the street, were fined £10 and £15 each.
