Okoia Notes.

(From Our Own Corespondent.)

The concert and dance held on Friday last turned out a great success, the hall being crowded. Mr. R. Neilson occupied the chair. The programme: submitted was first-class. Some of the singing was considerably above the average at country places. Indeed, judging by tlie appreciation shown, it is doubtful if a number of performers could be brought together that wouM have given greater satisfaction. The encores were numerousi, and the stage at times covered with a perfect shower of bouquets, some of the lady singers scoring a decided success. Mr. Swan's recitations kept the audience in a perfect roar of laughter from start to finish. The following ladies and gentlemen took part: — Miss Duigan, pianoforte overture; Miss Duigan, song ; Mr. Swan, recitation ; Mrs. bi.mmond, song; Mr. Watt, song; Mrs, Cooper, song; Mr. Pownall, gong ; accompanyist, Mr. Brinkley. The second part of the programme consisted of : Mrs. Grimmiond> song; Mr. Swan, recitation; Mr. PownalL song; Mrs. Cooper, song; Mr. Watt, song; Miss Duigam, song. During an interval abundance of refreshments wa*i handed round.

Mr. J. E. Wilson mioved a vote of thanks to all who had so kindly taken part, and made the gatherincr such a success. After the concert the floor was cleared for the dance, winch was kept going till 3.30 a.m. Mr. G. W. Anderson supplied the music. Mr. J. McGrail made an excellent M.C., and added not a little to the success of the whole gathering.
