innings. Hill commenced to score smartly. Darting was bowled offyhis pad after scoring three.-—Three; for 102. Nobie joined Hill, and both gave an excellent display, iNoble being especially free, knocking* up 35 in half an hour. A total of 250 was produced for under two hours' ipJay. Hill scored more slowly than, his partner, who had registered his half century in fifty-five minutes. Although, the batting was bright, the fielding was poor. Noble outpaced Hill's -total before beingcaught at short-leg by \V. Smith. His innings was excellent, characterised by fine hitting.—Pour for 207. Gregory was next. Mead was bowling well, bul was unlucky. Hill gave chances to the wicketkeeper— both a catch and stumping. At lurch fqjir wickets were down for 265. On resuming Hill attained his century in 195 mniutes. Gregory was getting p'Jenty of runs1 with' pretty, strokes.
When the third- century was in sight, E. Smith, and Young were bowling, the latter having replaced Mead, but no separation was effected till £Jarpenter took the ball. /
Hill then slogged at one, which beat him, and he closed a fine innings of very free cricket after he gpt his century.— Five for .349.
Gregory was out leg-before to Mead, Armstrong- being1 run out at 375. Received August 15, 8.5 pan. LONDON, August 15. Hopkins was chiefly instrumental in carrying the total -well beyond the fourth century before retiring for leg-before to Thompson, who also bagged' Trumble when he had made seven.
