MARTON Z August 15. After -waiting for some years, gas tonight is an accomplished fact, the official lighting of a large 200-oandle incandescent (power lamp being performed by the Mayoress outside the Drill Hall. Broadway was as bright as daylight. The street lamps were also lit for the first time. An adjournment was then made to the banquet, when a good company sat down to a sumptuous spread! supplied by Mr. Nicol. A dance was held afterwards1. The hall is nicely decorated and lit with 28 lights. The. Mayor eo-ngrautlated Mr. Smithies, the engineer, on carrying out the comple-. tion of the works.
