THE NINTH CONTINGENT.
QUESTION OF COMMAND
WELLINGTON, February. 1
There is much speculation, as to'who will command-the.Ninth Contingent. ~ One possibility, is that no colonel will be chosen,, 'but that the contingent .will be attached.to the. New Zealand Division under; Colonel Tsn.yii»s, in which case it will sail under the battalion leaders, one of whom (Captain Jackson, for the South, Island, battalion) has already been chosen. ' .
In case.the colonel should be chosen, the np.ssible appointments are said tof be Colonels B;obin. Newall, -and Owen. , and Colonel Porter is advised that applicants for, commissions should make alternative applications as officers or troopers— i.e., they should apply to the Kecruvtiing, Board for acceptance as troopers and-to the Officei; Commanding the District for commissions, in order to avoid disappointmeijt.
