MR. T. W. SHARP'S ORGAN RECITAL.

To the Editor

Sir.—Kindly grant mo space for a few lines about the above. In this mornings paper your report states that "there was ■a large attendance at the organ recital given at Christ Church last evening by Mr. T. W. Shaip, of Napier." This is scarcely correct. The church was, perhaps, "two-thirds full, the audience consisting for the greater part by far of the fair sex. But this is almost always so; indeed, were it not for the ladies generally, there would be a beggarly anay of empty benches for organists and others to play "and sing- to at organ recitals and concerts of high-class music in Wanganui as a rule. This is tin absolute! deplorable fact, 1 regret to add. As regards the music rendered and Mr. Sharp's oigan playing, 1 would take the liberty to remark that 1 think it was excellent." Mr. Sharp is, without doubt, a good, sound player upon the "king of musical instilments." and he did ample justice to most of the pieces .set clown on the programme. 1 did not hear the first four numbers, unfortunately, as I vas kite i: L'ntin-. to the recital, but I would Like to" say that I think Mr. Sharp's rendering of "Military March" (Schubert), "Waft. her. Angels'* (Handel), Chopin's celebrated "Funeral March," and the magnificent march and chorus from "Tannhauser" (Wagner)., left little to be.desired. The last piece, more especially, was very fine, and the way it was played was quite a treat. Vocal solo, "Evening Prayer' (Costa), by Miss DeLves, was pleasingly sung.—l am, etc., JAS. GARLAND WOON.
