SPEECH BY THE PREMIER

Per Press Association

WELLINGTON, Jan. 30. Speaking at a Liberal gathering last evening the Premier declared that it was obvious some one had blundered' in regard to the acceptance of the Argentine meat contracts, and he had only acted rightly in drawing pointed .attention to it. If "the Press cable were accurate, tenders had been called under certain conditions, and totally opposite conditions had been accepted. He went on to say that the Government was prepared to give the people of the Mother Country and British manufacturers a, preferential tariff, and were also prepared to give a rebate on British manufactured goods carried in British ships. Referring to railway works, Mr Seddon reiterated that the Ministry would not go beyond the votes authorised by Parliament.
