WANGANUI CALEDONIAN SOCIETY.
NINETEENTH ANNUAL MEETING.
The nineteenth annual sports programme issued by the Caledonian Society is both varied and attractive, and should meet with" general approval, as it provides sport.and amusement for aJI classes. Besides the usual national events, Highland dances, bagpipe music, hammer, stone, .and caber, the programme- includes foot races for cash and amateur classes, cycle races, a wood-chopping competition, and an obstacle race for boys. Good prizes are offered, and should attract first-class entries. Messrs. McHardy Bros.' annual do-natic-n of £5 is given as points prize in dancing, and Mr. R. K. Simpson's prize of two guineas is for a points prize in dancing. Messrs. Thomson and Lewis donate one guinea as a points prize in the hammer, stone, and caber contests. As an additional attraction to the sports, the members of the T.Y.M.I, will give a gymnastic display, which will no doubt be highly appreciated by_ the spectators. The entries for the pedestrian, cycle, and woodc'hopping events close with the secretary (W. R. Remington) on January bi a, up to 10 p.mi The track, which is acknowledged to be one of the best in the colony, is now in splendid order, and by the 22nd January^ shrould be perfect. The cycle races will be open to all, but; League ridera are aisto allowed to compete.
