TAIHAPE NOTES.
! (From Our Own Correspondent.) TiAlHAPE,.'November IJ. The Church of England bazaar and concert takes place on the sth and 6th of December, tne proceeds ta-go towards the new church and parsonage. Great preparations have been made for this important event. A new departure will be taken in regard to the concert. Glees, quartettes, trios, and duets forming part of the programme. The graceful Spanish dance, "The.Cachucha," will be danced by two young ladies, who have kindly offered their services, though living some distance away. Messrs. Ellis Bros, and Valder's brake came to grief to-day. A new horse had just been broken in by the driver (Mr. Herbert), and when coming down the bye ■road just above the town something caused the young horse tb kick and get its leg over the pole. He then set to work in 'earnest, and the other horse being very fresh, the pair were soon at a gallop, despite reins and brake. Mr. Herbert was thrown off the seat on to the fore-carriage by the wheel bumping on a bank, and only fell off on to the road a few seconds before the brake toppled over the bank, turnihv over twice. Neither of the horses were hurt beyond a. few scratches, which was wonderful. Mr. Herbert and anothjer employee (Mr. Prichard), who also was thrown off the seat, came off almost without a mark. The brake al«io came out of the smash in good, condition.
Several more men working on the North Main Trunk line about here have been discharged.. Where is' this discharging of coops, going, to end? Two months ago the line ( between here and Turangarere presented a busy appearance to anyone going along it, but now almost every cutting you come to lies quiet. N> stroke of the pick or tho loud report of blasting disturb? the stillness. This is certainly not the way to get the line through. Builders are very busy here at present. Messrs. Russell and Bignell, the contractors for both Mr. Hums' and Mr. Dalzeil's hotels, have 30 men working for them, and all the local carpenters, etc., <iie working hard on new houses in the township. Mr. H. E. Yokes, secretary to the Taihape Brass Band, is sparing no pains to ensure the forthcoming band concert a success. This concert will be held on November 25th, and something really good will be put on. ' ■ :
