THE NEW HEBRIDES.
To the Editor
Sir, —The French settlers here are giving out to the natives, and all who may believe it, that "these islands are verysoon now l.'o be French property, and all Englishmen will be cleared" off." This naturally makes the natives try to keep in with them, and care little how they treat th« English, and a number of newFrench settlers are being sent out here at present. We consider,' too, that the men of our own Navy would much prefer these islands being given up, for as things are some of them get banished up into these regions for" some months every year. This fact, we think, makes them inclined to do as little for us as possi&e. An English man-of-war came last month to see into a case against some French here that we consider serious. Her officers went to see the Frenchmen complained about, and it seems they made the captain believe tnat Kho Englisli complainant was away, for ho did not visit him, but left a letter saying, "As I find you are en routs for New Zealand I cannot investigate your case."— I am, -etc.,
