Tlie Presbyterian Assembly sustained an overture from the New South Wales Assembly expressing sympathy with the idea of a United Evangelical Christian Church of Australia, and appointed a committee to consider the principles on which the Presbyterian Church is prepared to participate in the larger union, the committee to report to next Assembly. • Many portions of the country have experienced snow for the first "time on record. ':'■■'■ PERTH, July 29; An ex-policeman, formerly stationed in the Kiinberley district, has given the press details of gross cruelties perpetrated by whites on aboriginals, many of whom were flogged on the slightest pretext and otherwise shockingly treated. An inquiry is called for.
