WANGANUI RUGBY UNION.
A meeting of the Management Commit*tee was held last evening, there being pretent Messrs. G. Spriggens (in the chair), A. Gray, A. E. Bullock, H. Tilleyy G. R. Simpson, A. W. Mountfort, G. H.'Pownall, and Rev. J. M. Marshall. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Correspondence.—From the. New Zea^ land Union, stating that liie Appeal Committee could not consider tihe Hunterville Marton appeal case as it had not yet been, dealt with by this Union.. Word, was received that tlhe match has been re-played, so that nothing more would be. done in the matter. With regard to law 10 as to disallowing a kick in case of feinting by either placer or kicker, tke'iJew Zealand Appeal Committee ruled that "tiie kick cannot be disallowed." From the Rover .Football Club, thanking the Union for theuse of the Recreation Ground and shed. Representative Fixtures.—A letter was lead from the Bush Rugby Union,.asking ■i]his Union to suggest a date for the match here. The secretary reported that he had suggested Saturday, 24th August, as a suitable date, or else the preceding or following Thursday. The secretary's action was endorsed. The secretary of the Rangitikei Sub-union wrote intimating that' he 3rd and 10th August, would suit for matches with this Union. Received. The Marlborough Union wired that its reoresentatives would be unable to visit Wanganui this season. The secretory stated that he ihad written to the Hawke's Bay Union that it would be impossible to meet them here on 4th September. New South Wales Visit.—Correspondence was read from the New Zealand Union, stating that as the Tarana'ki Union would not agree to combine with Wanganui against New South Wales, the match would be played here against Wan* ganui only. Received.
New Members. —A list of new members sent in by the Mitchell Football Club was passed. The same club was. also granted permission to play a Castlecliff team, at the end of the cup contest. Disqualification.—A letter was receivo<l from Johnston, a iplayer of the Pirate Football Club recently disqualified for misconduct in the Pirate-Kaierau match, asking that the Union re-open his case, as he considered he had been, harshly treated, and requesting that a Kaierau player be allowed to give evidence on his behalf. A short discussion took place, during ■which opinion was expressed that the player had an opportunity of tendering evidence whea his case was first heard. The referee (Mr. Tilley) stated that he distinctly saw Johnston commit ..the offence for which he was ordered off the field. The following moilion (seconded pro forma) was then put and lost, the mover alone voting for it: — "That Johnston's case be re-opened and that the evidence of the- Kaierau player bs heard." "*
The case of McGregor (Pirate Football Club), reported by the referee for misconduct in the recent Pirate-Kaierau match, was then taken. The referee's letter was read, also a' written statement from the secretary of the Pirate Football Club. The player was in attendance and gave an explanation of his conduct, and after answering a number of questions, retired. After some consideration, it was finally resolved that the player be suspended from playing until the 31st December, 1901.
New Zealand Representative Team.—lt was resolved that the following players be suggested to t.lio New Zealand Union for places in the New Zealand representative team against New South Wales:—L.Stedman, Takarangi, and E. J. Le Cren. Aramoho Ground.—lt was reported that tlio Aramoho Ground was in a very ba<f condition and unfit for play, and it was resolved thai; for iSie present no cut* matches should be -played there. The secretary was deputed to arrangefor the use of the Brill Hall on Thursday nights for practice for the representative team.
