BAPTIST BAND OF HOPE.

, An enjoyable evening was spent by the members of the Wanganui Baptist Band of Hqpe and their friends in the schoolroom on Thursday evening, on the occasion of their first quarterly social. After the opening hymn and prayer, the programme commenced with a recitation from Master H. Holland entitled "They Didn't Think," followed by a solo, "My Old Friend John," by Mr'D. J. Bell; and next came a recitation from Miss Nellie Lints. After a short interval for social intercourse, Misses B. and F. Loveday and V. Holland gave a pretty trio named "Little Ones of God are We" ; then came a recitation, "The Fire Fiend," by Mr S. Small; followed by a solo by Miss V. Holland, "The Drunkard's Child"; and next a recitation, "The Wreck of the Wairarapa," by Mr S. Henderson. Another interval was then announced, during which refreshments were handed round and a collection taken up in aid of the Band of Hope. The programme concluded with an amusing dialogue entitled "Peter Quill's Downfall" by the members of the Advance Wangair.i Lodge, who kindly assisted. A vote o! thanks to all those who had assisted in making the meeting so successful was then proposed by Mr Holland, and carried unanimously. The meeting closed with a hymn and the Benediction.
