NATIONAL DAIRY ASSOCIATION.

Per Press Association. PALMERSTON N./July 24. At a meeting of the National Daily Association this afternoon, resolutions were passed—That the interests of the Dairy Association and producers would be furthered by controlling freezing storage at Wellington; that a meeting of delegates be held at a future date to consider the advisability of the erection of freezing works in Wellington in connection with the dairying industry. A long discussion took place on the question of the shortage of weight of export butter, and it was suggested that the Government be asked to weigh butter when graded and that certificates of weight and quailty be issued to producers. A motion that the Government be asked to increase the subsidy granted in connection with the storage of butter to 3£d was negatived, and an amendment that the executive take no action in the matter was earned. It was decided that the question of taxation of co-operative companies' profits be left to the executive of the Association to deal with. A letter was read from the Wellington Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, protesting against the practice of dehorning. An animated discussion took place on the question, the majority of the speakers considering the practice humane and in the best interests of the cattle. Eventually it was decided that, while the meeting recognises that the Society js acting from humane motives, the Association consider .that the i>ractiee tends greatly to benefit cattle. Replying to a question, the president stated that endeavours would be made to hold meetings of farmers in the various centres to discuss important questions affecting the industry. During the afternoon a paper was read by Mr Wilkio, Government Veterinarian, on the improvement of the breed of dairy cows
