The annual fair in connection with the Wanganui Public Museum was opened yesterday afternoon by the Mayor (Mr A. Hat rick). In the course of his remarks his Worship heartily congratulated the ladies who had worked so hard during the year to make the many useful and I beautiful articles which were offered for salo in the work stall. He wished the Museum nil success in the future. The different stalls were well stocked, andwero nicely arranged, indicative of mv :h labour on the part of line ladies. The refreshment stall was under the control ol Mrs. J. D. Greig, who was assisted by Mesdames Lennard and Ellison and Misses Armstrong and Anderson. The lolly staU was in charge of the Misses Fraser, assisted by Misses Barnicoat and Dodgshun. Mrs. Haines presided over the work stall, the numerous pretty ana useful articles in which had been made by the ladies at the "working bee" during the year. Tha other ladies assisting at this stall were Mesdames Cremer and Smith, Misses Davey, Borlase, Smith, and Goffe. Mrs. Hope-Gibbons guided the destinies of the produce stall, and was assited by Misses Parsons, Newcombe, Mcßeth, Gibbons, and Trainer. Miss Leydon, in the gipsy's tent enlightened a large number of inquirers as to the future course of their lives. Despite the threatening weather at the hour of opening, there was a fair number of people present, and they were soon beseiged by the fair vendors,, with the result that before the doors were closed the stalls began, in contradistinction to- the money bags, to prevent a somewhat empty appearance. In the evening there was a fair attendance, and good business was again done. During the evening sweet music was discoursed by Armstrong's Orchestra.. The ladies wish to express their thanks to Messrs. Cumberland, Caiman," and White, and all the drapers who so kindly provided materials for decoration purposes. They also desire to thank Mrs. Lennard for the great assistance she has rendered.

The fair will be open again this afternoon and evening, when it is to be hoped there will be a large attendance. During the evening selections of musio will be rendered by Hooper's Orchestra.
