A RUNAWAY.
A cab "bolt," which occurred yesterday afternoon, was the cause of an exhibition of pluck on- the part of Constable Clarke. The vehicle was standing opposite the Bank of New South Wales, and the driver was in iShe act of closing the door after ■ijwo ladies and a lad had taken their seats when the horses suddenly started off up the Avenue at a galloping pace. When passing the Fountain Constable Clarke made a dash for the horses and grasped the reins, to which he clung for some seconds. The pace, however, was too hot, and a swerve on the part of the horses forced him to release his hold, the wheels of the cab just passing him' as he swung clear. Opposite dhrisb Churchy one of the horses fell, and both were quickly secured. The driver also did his best to stop the horses, but he, like the constable, found the pace too fast. The occupants of the cab displayed remarkable coolness, and fortunately, escaped withatrfc injury.
