On the Board resuming yesterday, morning at 9. SO,. Mr Pirarii 'was voted to the <;hair iri the absence of Mr G. 8". Bridge, Mr F. M. Spurdle: was also in attendance.; Swimming—The Secretaiy for Education wrote notifying the Board that its share of the grant of £300 voted last ses,sion for encouragement of- swimming in public schools was £33 17s 7d.
. District High Schools—The chui.rma stated that, the Rev G. Bond (chairman < the Wanganui School Committee) had ii formed bun"that he had interviewed tt Premier and Minister of Education wit respect to tho establishment of a Distrii High School at ; Wanganui, and the Pn mier had informed him that the Goveri ment would officially recognise the schoo A letter was read from Mr G. Hogbei Secretary for Education, stating that M Bond had seen the Minister in regard i the matter, which, it was hoped, would t 'settled as soon as possible. The Secretai for Education also stated that he had be« directed to inform the Board that tl Minister had sanctioned the conversion < the Hawera Public School into a Distri< High School. ■ • . i Amended Scholarship Regulations—Tl Education Bepai-tment wrote, sanctionis tho amended regulations. '.-.'. Kakariki School—On the motion of M Lethbridge, it was decided to rescind tl resolution passed, at last meeting closin the Kakariki School. Model Rifles—The headmaster of tl Patea School applied, through the Schoc Committee, for 40 model rifles for thei cadet company. Jit was decided to appl to the Government for the rifles. Turakina School—Mr J. G. Campbell explanation re damage at Tnrakina Scho< was accepted. ' College Streetr—Letter, from Committei offering use of school for drill classes, an asking that repairs be effected. Referre to Building Committee. , A. Complaint—A parent;.at Ashursfecon plained of the school being closed so fr< quently, and the; taacher explained tha the only additional holidays granted wei given by the School Committee on the o( casion of the Queen's death and the visi of the Imperial? troops. Mosstown—Mr R. B. Taylor, chairma of the i\lossto>vn School Committee, agai wrote requestiag.that ths old desks shoul be replaced with new ones. He said it wa pitiful to see the slouchy gait- of the schoc children, with bent backs, which the Coir mittee attributed to sitting at the abomir able desks, which were too low. The aj plication was referred to the Building Coed mittee, with power to act. Raetihi—A letter from tho Raetihi Com missiqaer was read and referred to th Building Committee;■ with power to act. School—Application for repairs etc.,'-referred to Building Committee. A lot of general business .was . disriosei of, and the Board adjourned at 11 o'clock Wanganui—A deputation, consisting o the Rev G. Bond and Mr W. Bruce wajte< on the Board and asked that' a 6 feet iroi fence be erected all round or on tw( sides of the Girls' School Ground. <Thi deputation also asked that kindergartei system hs introduced in Infant School. Ii was resolved that notice boards be erecte< ■as soon as possible.
