Obituary—Benjamin Ha-rrieon, ex-Prcsi-denfc of the United State*, of pneumonia, aged 67. ,

[Benjamin Harrison was bom in 1833 at North Bend, near Cincinnati." He claimed descent from Commissioner Harrison, who signed the death warrant of Charles I. He was a great-grandson of Benjamin Harrison, one of the-.signers of the declaration of American Independence, aiul a grandyon of General W. H. Harrison, who was elected President of the United States in 1840, and died a month after his installation. He was educated at the Miami University at Oxford, Ohio, where he graduated lit the age of 18, and disfnguished himself as <m extempore speaker. He subsequently studied law in Cincinnati, in .1854 removed to Indiana, and in 1860 was elected reporter of the Supreme Court of that State. After the outbreak of the Civil War, he entered the 70th Indiana regiment as colonel, and during the Atlanta campaign greatly distinguished himself. In 1880 he was elected Governor of Indiana, and in tho following year was returned by that State to the United States Senate. He then became1 leader of the Republican Party, and was elected President of the United States of America in November, 1888. Tho result of the Presidential election of 1892, however, was to deprive him of power and* to reinstate his rival, President Cleveland. Mr Harrison afterwards accepted a, law professorship in the L'Jiand Stanford University, California. He was active in the election campaign which resulted in the defeat of the Democrats in November, 1894.]
