Messrs Jlurray, Roberts and" Co. have received the following wool maa-ket cablegram from their London- house, Messrs Sanderson, Murray" aiid Co:, dated 12th March: —
Sales have opened without animation. There is an average attendance of buyers; Competition is modera,te; market shews no material change, except for crossbreds, which have declined 5 to 7J per cent.
An accident attended-by serious results occurred in the Avenue yesterday afternoon. Two men were riding up the Avenue, and when in the vicinity of the ciib-stand commenced to gallop. When opposite Chavamnes' Hotel tho saddle 911 one of the horses slipped, with the ifesu^^ that tho rider (a, man" named Daniel Robertson, employed by Mr W. Ritchie as a threshing machine hand) was thrown heavily to theground,landing on his head.' Constables Clark and Oiouston were at once . upon the spot,' and administered first aKI to the sufferer until' the arrival of Dr In-' nes. By order of the doctor the unfortunate man was conveyed in the ambulance waggon to the Hospital, where he lies in a precarious condition. The accident occurred ju3t after the close of the marching competition at Cook's Gardens, so that the' Avenue was fairly crowded) with people, who had ai rather warm; time endeavouring to keep clear of the horse, which, continued galloping furiously.
