Sb Leger Stakes: Finland 1, Barbarossa 2, British Admiral 3. Betting—4 to len Finland, sto 1 against, Barbarossa. Barbarossa. led coming up to the straight, but Finland. then .challenged him,, and coming Up! even at the distance, won pretty easily by two lengths, twelve lengths between second and third. Time, -mm 9£sec. Newmarket Handicap: Wakeful, 7.6 (including lOlbs penalty), 1; Fulminate, ey.lo (including 71bs penalty), 2 ;' Advance, ?9.12, 3. Betting—s to 2 Wakeful, 9to 2 Advance, 7 to 1 Watch Dog, 12'tol Man of Honor, 16 to 1 Fulminate. From a fairly good start Epitome was first to show upi Watch Dog next, then Advance and Wakeful. At the half-mile Fulminate ran up to Advance, So Long coming next, Wakeful being well up on tho extreme outside. ' Approaching the distance, Advance, who had been coming' along at a fine pace, challenged Fulminate, Wakeful being pretty nearly even. The. three had a fine .set-to, which resulted in a win for Wakeful by three-quarters of .a, length, Advance a neck behind Fulminate. Then came Ferryman and Man of Honor. Time, lmin 15|sec.
Sires Produce Stakes: United States 1, Elderslie 2, Hautum, 3. Won by a length and a. half. Time, lmin 16isec. Essendon Stakes: La Carabine-1, Clean Sweep 2, Maltster 3; Betting—Evens La Carabine, 5 to 2 Maltster, 7 to 1 Glean Sweep. Clean Sweep made the running to the straight, where La Carabine forged ahead. Won after a, splendid race by a length, Malltster four lengths further away. Time, 2min 35sec.
Brunswick Stakes: Speculation 1, First Mate 2, Keyless 3. Betting—s to 2 Speculation, 7 to 2 Royal Purple, 10 to 1 Boreas. Boreas, who was left at the post, lost several lengths. Contrast ler for the round turn; then came Boreas, who made a, marvellous recovery: Speculation took charge a.t the distance. Won by three lengths, two lengths between second and third. Time, 2min 9sec.
