CHRISTCHURCH, January 1. The Lyttelton Regatta was a great success." The first day the water was too rough for outrigger events, but there was a grand sailing breeze. The stump outrigged races were rowed inside tlhe moles. The Rainbow, the Auckland' yacht, won the Championship easily, beating the Waitangi (Wellington) and the Yoonne and Kaiora (Lyttelton).
In the swimming sports M. E. Champion (of Wellington) won the Half-mile New Zealand Amateur Championship in 14min 17sec, boating the standard by linin 13sec. Results:--
First-class Yachts. Rainbow (Auckland) 1. Waitangi (Wellington) 2, Yoonne (LytOellon) 3, the Ro.inbow winning easily throughout. Handicap Yacht Race: Flectwing 1, Kawhai 2, Bettina 3. A large field.
