THE BRITON'S PRIVILEGE.
Air Hone Heke, M.H.R., favours the introduction ol licensed: houses for the sale of liquor in the Maori country. Speaking on the subject in the Houso yesterday afternoon, ho asked what were the privileges of the English-speaking race? "Long beers," interjected Air Pirani, who holds opposite views to Atr Heke. "Yes." added Air Heke. "Beer has really beeii the milk that has nourished the English race, and led to its present greatness." "What about whiskej*?" interjected another member. ■ "Whiskey," said Air Heke, "was also a liquid, but it was attached to the Scotch .race." "And the Irish," added yet another member, amidst some good-natured banter.
