FIFTH NIGHT. ANOTHER .GREAT CROWD. As a popular draw "Tiie Birth, of the Empire" already takes the record. For five consecutiye nights people havo had to be refused admission, and on more than one occasion tho nnmber turned away lias been sufficient to fill the large hall. Laßt night, on the occasion of the fifth performance, the attendance wns as" large as ever, eveiy inch of available space being occupied. The large audiences, too, seem to grow nightly more appreciative and enthusiastic. Every item, from fche grand wait/, danseuse to tlie final galop of Rough Riders, was loudly applauded, Signor Borzoni himself receiving a special ovation at tho conclusion of the grand march. Once again good business was done a.t the stalls. A few novelties were introduced. The Pipe Band played in the Ladies' Khaki Corps, who again received ft groat (ind enthusiastic reception*. Mr- Braid danced the, sailor's hornpipe to the music of Piper McTavlsli j Mr Braid received an ovation, and deserved it. Tlie performance concluded wilh the Grand March by the Pipe Band. During an interval, the 'energetic secretaiy (Mr McNaught) announced that, by a, special favour oh llie part of the Christchurch Exhibition Committee, Signor Borzoni's valuablo service* bad' beeji secured, for a. few extra, days, and that the Carnival would be kept opeii until Wednesday next. This has been {omul imperatively necessarj' to keep faith with the public, as 9000 tickets have already been sold and room found as yet for only 6000 persons.
