ASSOCIATION MATCH. WELLINGTON v. AUCKLAND. AUCKLAND W.INS BY 6 GOALS TO 1. Fib Pk£ss Association AUCKLAND, September 20. The Association Football Championship Tournament for the .Brown Chullenge Shield opened to-day at Potter's paddock, when Auckland (the present holders of the trophy) met Wellington, and after' a fairly interesting game, much, marred by rain ■ which fell heavily "during the greater part of the afternoon, Auckland won by six goals to. one. Auckland had the best, of tho game except for the first ten minutes, when Wellington • pressed. The combination of the visitors was superior to Auck- ■ land in the first spell, but the home team improved greatly in the' second spell. Auckland meets Otago in the final on Saturday.
The rep, team returned home by yesterday morning's train, and were met at the station by several of the officials of the Rugby Union, and a fair number of footballerk They were driven in a brake to the Rutland Hotel, where they were entertained, thus making a very pleasing ter T mination to the trip.
