GLENLIVET is a stoutly-built Clydesdale Colt, having immense power and substance, great quarters and loins, flat bone of the best quality, abundance of hair of .silky fineness, and is a symmetrical horse all over; a true type of the breed he represents. He sturds 17 hands, and is full brother to the champion colt Olenroy, which was bred by A. Alexander, Esq., Waihi, Nonnanby, and wasj sold to WTaylor, Esq., Awamutu, Waikato, for 200 guineas. Glenroy took the following prizes: — First and Champion, Hawera, 1899; First and Champion, Palmerston, 1C99; First and Champion, Wangahui, 1899, beating all aged horses Detween New Plymouth and Wellington, a record unbeaten in the North Island. At the big dispersal sale (March, 1900) of W. Taylor's Clydesdales at Awamutu, Christina F. McCormick, half-sister to Glenlivet," by Glengyle, brought 130 guineas. Competent judges give it as their opinion that he is one of the most perfect Clydesdales ever bred in the North Is* v land. As regards his pedigree, Glenlivet is without blemish, and few horses possess such an ilustrious ancestral line. _Now that the breeding of Clydesdales is being exten- \ sively followed, breeders cannot overlook the undeniable merits of this grand colt. Glenlivet (who was bred by A. Alexander, Esq., Waihi, Normanby) is by the renowned sire Glengyle, a horse that comes from a great strain. Glengyle has no less than 18 first and champion prizes to his credit, whilst his stock have all turned out well, and sell at exceptionally high prices. Glengylois by 'Prince of the Isles (imported, and sold at Onmaru for 450g5.), by Honest Tom. Princ-. of the Isles took numerous first prizes at Home, and proved himself a sire of rare .quality. Glengyle's dam, Helen McGregor, is by Glenroy, by Prince of Wales (imp.). Helen McGregor s dam Violet by Sir Colin Campbell, by King Fergus, dam Scotland's Pride. Glenlivet's dam is that well-known prizetaker Rose, by Director, who is by that celebrated sire, Young Banker (imp.), from Queen Isabella 11., by Young Vanquisher (imp.) ; g.d. Queen Isabella, by Campsie 111. (imp.) ; g.g.d. The Belle, by Blair's Champion (imp.). Queen Isabella 11. is full sister to Glencoe, a winner of- first and champion prizes. Young Banker was nevef beaten in the Southern Hemisphere. Director won numerous first and champion prizes. At Wanganui he beat Blackleg, the latter having previously beaten Robin Adair at Hawke's Bay. Rose's dam, Primrose, is by Glenroy, by Prince of Wales (imp.) ; dam Darling, by Redman (imp.); { d. Lily, by George Buchanan (imp.). , In the show ring Glenlivet'a dam, Rose, gained the following awards: — Ist at Eginont in 1893, 2nd in 1894, first and champion in 1895,' 15t in 1896; Ist and champion at Wanganui in 1895 ; and Ist in 1895, 1897| and 1898 at Taranaki. Thus at eight shows Bl>e was only beaten once. It will thus bo seen from the fdregoing that Glenlivet comes from exceptionally good stock. Possessing a double strain of the valuable Prince of Wales' bloofl makes his worth as a sire all the mqre apparent. Not only is ho descended from a great family of prizetakers, but also, from stock that form tha pillars of the Clydesdale Stud Book. Breeders therefore may consider themselves as being specially favoured in having such a horse in their district.
