A BRITISH GARRISON SURROUNDED.

THE BOER ARMY A BROKEN AND DISORGANISED RABBLE. MICHAEL DAVITT DISILLUSIONED. LONDON, September 18. A British garrison at Schweizersevenek, on Hart's River, 40 miles southeast of Vryburg (midway between Mafeking and Kimbcrlcy) has been surrounded for a fortnight, and are still resisting. They are well provisioned. A force has left Vryburg to relieve. All tho Boers' heavy- ordnance is at Komati l'ooit. The army is broken and in a disorganised rabble. Michael Davitt declared that his visit to South Africa has disillusioned him. He describes the selfishness and greed of_ the Doers, and states that many foreign officers are homeward bound in a penniless condition. He further says that Kruger prolonged the struggle for the purpose of holding gold.
