BREAKING THE SABBATH.
. To the Edltoi. Sir,— According to the Patea County Pi ess' report of the meeting of the Wav-. erley Domain Board, Constable O'Brien takes umbrage at my letter in your columns on the 10th inst, as casting serious reflections on his official reputation, and asks the Board to take notice of the matter. Apparently because the Domain Board fails to arm Mr O'Brien with power, tho public must shut their eyes to the Tact that football, card playing, etc., is cariied on Sunday after Sunday, and those that cannot appreciate such pastimes on that day must stay from our Domain, iii"-' stead of having a quiet strole or a seat on a Sunday in those grounds. But mark Constable O'Brien's report to the . Board: "Tkey play' for pastime only." Yes, take notice of this all you sactimonious people who read this. "They play for pastime only," to pass the Sabbath Day away ; a sad state of affairs, and the public, wko happen to be in the vicinity should shut their eyes to it. Perhaps if Constable O'Brien* follows tfiis class of people up through this colony he would find that this ia the class who loiters about street corners and under verandahs in the towns thioughout this colony, making disgusting remarks about passers-by — more particulary the ladies — as well as congregating about church doors durin/-- evening service — merely for pastime. But nevertheless it is an evil, that is threatening this colony by leaps and bounds, and has been doing so for years, and has been the ruin of as great Empires as this one tye are so fond of boasting about before to day. For He who is now apparently condemned to second place said, "Reverence my Sabbaths."— l am, etc, * A. SETTLER.
