SENIOR CUP. UNITED THUESDAY v. BRITANNIA. This match was continued on Cook's Gardens yesterday afternoon, the Uniteds batting. Boyes and Walker opened to the bowling of the Key. Bartlett and Lewis. Both bats played steadily, Bartlett being punished most. With 17 up Gordon relieved Bartlett, and almost had Boyes caught. Two runs later, however, this batsman returned an easy one to Gordon, which was taken, Stuart joined Walker, but for the first over or two was very much at sea. The score was taken slowly past their opponents' total, (26), and then Stuart livened up, and the score quickly rose. At 40 Bartlett took Lewis' place at the lower end, and soon after bowled Stuart. Walker got a boundary to square-leg, but Bartlett soon had his revenge, and beat the batsman all the way. He was now maintaining a splendid length and getting a lot of work on, the result being that wickets fell rapidly, Ansley alone showing good defence. The innings closed for 70. Gordon maintained a good length ' throughout, and was difficult to score off. Some smart fielding was put in by Armstrong appoint. With an hour to time, the Britannias started their second innings, and made things lively for bowlers and field, Walker especially being knocked about. Lewis played a fine aggressive innings for 23 (not out), and at the call of time the Britannias had put up 4 for 9 3 wickets. As the match is unfinished it is decided on the first innings in favour of the Uniteds. The scores were : — UNITED THUESDAY.
