The subscription for the year was fixed at 2s 6d. This terminated the business, and cheers were called for the retiring officers. The members of the Club then adjourned to a smoke concert, which was given in honour of Mr. W. L. Young, who is leaving for Wanganui to engage in his business there. Songs, recitations, speeches, and jokes were the order of the' evening, but the most pleasing ceremony was the presentation, which was made by Mr. Meldrum (President), on behalf of the Club, to Mr. Young as a slight token* for his past services, and the present consisted of a pipe case, which included two pipes aud v cigarette holder, and a tobacco pouch suitably engraved. Mr. Young for once in his life was that much taken by surprise that he could not find words to express his feelings. This brought a most pleasing evening to a close, all present joining in singing "Auld Lang Syne." The annual meeting of parishioners takes place iv St. John the Baptist's Church on Monday next, April 10th, at 7.30, when a full meeting is requested, to elect the officeis who have to govern church matters for the next year.
