AVanganui. 46 43£ 894 Waihi. 47 414 88i - Palmerston. 45 42| 87|Woodville. 41 40i 814 Feilding. 39 , 37 76 Greymouth. 46 . 27 73 - - Mitchelltowu. 39 . 33i 72* Previous to the competition, the bands assembled itt the square, marching and playing in combiuation, to the Show An immense concourse of people altended. There was a chilly south-east breeze during the afternoon. The win was a very popular one, and our boys are to be honoured by a beating of only a point and a half. Slight dissatisfaction is felt at the seeming insufficient attention to facing, iv which Wanganui were nearest, lieing only one second and one pace short. Had the usual system df deducting for irregularities of bands in this respect been observed, our boys would have come out top. AVaihi was a very popular third. Sergeant Anderson, of our boys, led the latter baud as Drum Major, whose courtesy received a popular ovation by the visiting bands and the public. • Thi, notion of Palmerston in refusing this assistance to a band that has- had no opportunities of previous military'drill is much commented upon amongst bandsmen. Oiir band had a very successful practice this evening of "TroVatore," and, judging by the interpretation of the premier band at its practice, promise to show up pretty well. The remainder of the solo competitions are being continued this evening. Bob Blythe is competing iv the Solo Horn Branch • T. Brown has scratched for the Baritoiie Solos.
