The match between the New Zealand Team and the Otago Thirtien commenced afc Casbrook this afternoon. The heavy troprical rains daily during the week liad 1 soaKed the ground, and in expectation lhe wickefc would play badly Cobcroft, who I was elected captain of the colonial team, sent the local men to bat. As it turned out the wicket, though slow, played easily, and the lirst few batsmen scored freely. A long tail developed, however, and the innings realised 105 only. Reese and Baker, the pioneer batsmen of New Zealand Team, scored freely, but after their dismissal play was tediously -slow, especially during the partnership of Coboroft and Ike Mills.
