An old idoatity named L. W. Tattoo, formerly well-kaown in buaicesa circles in the olden times,. is dead, at the age of 86. Be came from Nova Scotia.
EARTHQUAKES AT TAUPO.

Earthquake shocks commenced at Taupo on Thursday evening abont 7.30, followed by numerous earth tremors during the night and also on Friday.
The moQntein ia in eruption at intervals. On Friday evidently the rsd crater on Tongariro was active, aho Kgaruhoe and Tomare. Not tbe slightest damage is reported locally.
Liter. Tiie earthquakes are ceasing gradually, tfhere is no damage. '
