WHAT'S THE MATTER WITH THE GAS BILL ?

(Contributed.) • Husband (looking at the gas bill for July)—" What's the meaning of this, my dear ? Bea'.ly. it seems useless to expect economy from some people. Here, after the very liberal allowance made by the Gas Company, is the bill larger than ever. It's too bad ; you'll kaep me a poor man all my days I" Wife — " 1 assure you, John, that I was particularly careful last month; I was indeed." Husband—" Well, I Jok at the bill. How can you say you have been careful in the face of that ?" Wife — ' But I tsll you that I was careful. Mar/ will tell yon that I was very strict, both with regard to the stove and the lights." Husband— " Mary be bothered, fou can't get away from figures.' Wife—" lii too— o—o bad. The more— l— try (sob) to make things go right the more crooked they go. I've a good mind to drown myself !" Husband — " Thai's the way you always argue. You know you're wrong." She "I'm not!' He— ' Tou are !"• She—" I'm not ! ' He— • Tou are !" She—" Oh, cut the gas eff !" He—" Cnt it off yourself ." She—" I wont I" He-" Don't!" She—" I'll go right away home." He— "Yes, and I'll go right away to the gas office and raise the roof." She— "What's the use, if I'm to blame f" H f e r'!, Bu - t w yOW ' re not - There ' H ""me wretched trickery going on. Anyone can sac that the account's wrong.
