THE ABATTOIR QUESTION.
We gather that any delay that may j appear to be taking place in the establishment of a public abattoir merely rises from the necessity for finally arranging preliminaries, which necessarily takes some time. The Borough authorities are desirous o£ working in unison with the County Councils on either . side of the river, and .we understand' that all are agreed as to the necessity ot action being taken in the way proposed- by tho Borough Council. Then there is the bring-* ing of the Freezing Works abattoir under the Act, and its appointment as a public abattoir. This all takes time, but it is being steadily gone on with. Then it is proposed that nobody Bhall be permitted to soil meat within the Borough (unless he is duly licensed, and licenses will only be granted to poisons who have properly appointed shops in the Borough, and whose meat has been slaughtered in accordance with the provisions of a by-law to be framed to meet the case. At the next meetings of J the Council we understand the movers propose to proceed with |the^view of giving instructions for the framing of the necessary by-law.
