The polling day for the Federal • elec" tions was yesterday obser red as a holiday. The elections passed p'ff quietly through out tbe colonies.

The latest returns show tbat t'ae following are the leading candidates:— Barton, Carrnthers, McMillan, Beid 'Lyne, B. E. O'Connor, Sir J. Abbott', Walker au_d Wise, the last two having replaced Cjptlind and Sjb as returns came in. • j About 140 small returnß aro still to come in, but it :b almost certain that Cardinal Moran has little chance of being included amongst the ten. Tfce Premier drove the Hon. Mr S addon to tbe various pouts of interest yesterday afternoon, calling at tbe principal polling booths , ,- Milbovshb, March 5. The following ten will probably be elected :— The Premie', Dr Quick, Messrs Peacock, leasee, D.eakip, Trenwith, Sir Graham Ber.y,>Ffa3er,-.Sir. William Zea. and Higgina. Hobabt, March 5. Ihe Federal returns are incomplete. The following., are leading:— Sir Phillip Fysb, Sir E.' Braddon, Henry, Lewis, Dnbson, Brown, Gr.tnt, Clarke^ Mcore and Collins. . ""'
