« (Per PuEts Abbooution.) iNVBRCARoiiiri, June 4' At the inquest on the child Fva Horneby, the medical evidence was to the eiTeol that the appearances of the bony wore not inconsistent with suffocation by external weans The jury, after half an hour's retirement, retnraed a verdict that in their opinion the child had been wilfully murdored. Later. The inquest; on the body of Eva Hornßby, the infant found buried in the garden at Dean's house, Wmton, was continued to day. The evidence showed that Minnie Oean got the child and £9 10s from its grandmother between Milton and Clartdon on tb« 2nd May, and that she left the train on the off side, and that the child was not afterwards seen alive. The letters which Mrs Dean wrote to Mrß Hornsby were aIBO produced, and the child's clothing found in Dean's honse was identified. Datective McQrath Baid the woman admitted that she got a child between Invercargill and Dnnedin in the month - of May, but said she was acting as agent for a person at Milton to whom ehe had handed it. Evidence was given that she had the baby at Milton and did not leave her ' seat at the station. The woman who had ' kept the infant identified the body by , - a birth sore or mark or accidental burn on the hand, and also ifs clothing. . Latest. The inquest on the infant Eva Hornsby concluded to-day, the verdict being wilfnl mprder against Mr3 Dean. The medical evidence was to the effect that death was caused by asphyxiation by mechanical means, there being nothing in the sfato of the organs to indicate death from natural causes. The inqueit of the Chrißtchurch child, Dorothy Carter, wns also completed, the jury returning a verdict of wilful murder against Minnie Dean. Professor Blnck deposed that a quantity of opium had been recovered from the internal organs, sufficient to cause death, and the medical evidence was to the effect that (he post mortem conditions were consistent with death from opium poisoning.
