THE AUCKLAND AUXILIARY ASYLUM.
(Per Press Association.) Auckland, June 4. Mr W. Crowther, M.H.R., yesterday despatched the fpllowing letter to the Hen, t}ie Premier, with reference to the decision to have the Auxiliary Asylum re-built with co-operative labour i— "With this note I am sending you a resolution passed by the Auckland Builders' Association, who have requested me to forward the same to you as Minister of Public Works, for your favourable consideration. They strongly assert that such large s\ims of public money should not be spent without boing submitted to fair and open competition. They further asseit that it is the safest and surest and the moat satisfactory way for the Government to get the work done. Tl:ey did nofT" object in the least co co-operative corn* petition, but they also asseit that if there be any good reason whv they, who form a considerable portion of the Colony's taxpayers, nhf uld be shut out from such a largo work (about .£12,000 mentioned) the reason should be made known to them with a view to having the matter set rikbt at once, as they cannot afford to continuously suffer under such disabilities, In terms of their request I respectfully cubmitthe accompanying resolution for your favourable consideration."
