Taradale and Meanee were in a worse plight than at tho floods of December last fo- a few hours, but the 1 water quickly subsided. n n the cessation of the rain to-day Farndon was also heavily flooded. Tn the Petano Valley the water was highor than it was ever known before. The Ncaruroro and Tutaekuri, though bank high, did not overflow to any considerable extent, and Clive was free from flood. A good many sheep have been lost, but the losses of stock are insignificant when compared with those of December, us the waters rose more gradually, and thore was time to move the stock. Jt is reported that much damage was done up the countryi The rain was accompanied by a gale of unprecedented severity, and the chief damage was done to gardens and fences, an enormous number o£ large tress being blown down. A very heavy sea was running from north-east. The wind was south, and this raised enormous waves. Solid green boss, 30ft deep, swept off the cant of the breakwater, but no damage of any importanco was done either to the breakwater or the wharf. The mole to the <rest of the breakwater now under construction was, however, htavily damaged, about 400 ft being swept away. The loss its estimated at about JC2OOO. A crane also went over into the sea.
