MARTON RAM FAIR.

The Marton Ram Fair comes almost, if not quite, at the end of the liet", und presents a pleasing contrast to most of those which have been hold this year. Mr. R. E. Beckett is to be congratulated on maintaining so woll the standard of his fairs. None more succsssful have r been held than tho one ho conducted yesterday, and it was quite cheering to have spirited bidding. There wai a do- 1 mand for almost all lines :ind although no phenomenal prices were realised yet there was a very fair avorage throughout, and what is more satisfactory, almost all the rams wore sold. Several lots, namely :— Messrs R Wilson's, A V McBeth's, W Milne's, R Breramer'e, T Bryce's, aud A Morrison's being sold right out. The highest price received during the sale was 7 guineas, being given by Mr. A. Y. Mcßeth for one of Mr. U. V Shannon's stud rams, a lirst-class animal and very well bred. 'Ihe general quality was good, thero being no poor lots, whilst many were above the {.'eneral average. Mr. Bowon, of Turalnna Valley, was again to the front with a number of his well-known lint-class sheep. There were no other breed but Lincolns entered The buyers by no means local, many having come from Kiwitea, Turakina, Bulls, and other places. Mr. Beckett conducted the salfVA| a very en»rgotic manner, and tlwl4U*%e9t to nuko it n success, a feature which he accomplished with much credit, earning for himself well-deserved remarks of approbation from all present. Mcßeth-30 offered ; all sold as follows A McLaughlin, one at lg ; Jas Johnston 29 at 1» each. On account of Mr R Brornmer-40 offered; all sold for 94gs; average ptiio nearly 'J^gs ; highest price 3J«s.
