Commercial Morality.

(Peb Press Association.) Dunei>in, November 1: At a. meeting of the Presbyterian Synod to-day, a report on the state of religion, stated, with reference to commercial morality, that there seemed to be a general consensus of opinion that the maxims which form the working creed of the commerce of to-day come far short of the ethics of the Sermon on the Mount Not a few of the questionable practises that abound may be laid at the door of the keen competition in all departments of business, and as the buyer as well as the seller has^a^sharo in these, he is so far blameworthy. The public have a crazo for bargains, and a cry for cheapness becomes to sellers an almost irresistible temptation to yield to practicos which, ia the light of Christ's teaching, bear unmistakable marks of dishonosty. The conclusion of the Committoe i 3 that the tone of commercial morality is low and selfish. Under tho hoading of "Industrial Movements," the report stated that though these could not in themselves bo regarded as hostile to the Church, there was a danger that these and tho questions involved might become so all-absorbing in their interest to tho industrial classes as to push religion into the background. Already they seem to have taken possession of some minds and were producing a deep and widespread indifference to the Church and the cause of Christ that called for the earnest attention and consideration of the Synod. The considora. tion of tho matter was adjourned.
