CHRISTCHURCH ITEMS.
(Per Pkess Association.) Christcuurch, August ?6. It is feared that two fishermen, named William Lawson and William Buckley, were drowned on Tbureday night. The boat was seen to leave Mackintosh Bay on Thursday evening, when a strong northeaster was blowing and a very heavy sea running. This morning portions of the boat was found on the beach. Information was sent to Lyttelton, and the steamer Jane Douglas fearched the bay, but found nothing savn an oilßkin coat belonging to one of the men. I/swsoj} has a wife and several children, ifockloy is unmarried. A shooting case occurred at Oxford this morning Screams were heard in the house of John Bickorton, and the police wore sent for. Sorgoant Scott could not obtain admittance, and word was sent to Inspector Broliam, who went up with several constables. Mre Bickerton was then induced to open the door, and Inspector Broham rushed forward, followed by tho others, and Bickarton was handcuflod. Ho had beside hiij| a loaded gu'u and six-chambered revolver.
