A Maori meeting at Kaikohe considered the action of a Tohunga named Wirimu Pohi for treating tho natives for witchcraft. It is alleged that 200 have been treated to expel devils, amongst them many children. The system adopted was pouring boiling water on the bare bodies of the patients, and applying hot mashed potatoes. In some instances the flesh peeled off. Fifty deiths are attributed to this causa.
