A Reciprocity convention.
An American-Canadian Convention mcl at St. Paul's Minnesota, on June 5. There were between 300 and 400 delegates present, and as many more came next day. The object was commercial, and to set forth the advantages of reciprocity with Canada for both countries, and the material development and mutual advantage to be derived from a deep waterway to tho ocean from Lake Superior. Ex-Governor Burke, of Dakota, was chairman. The Hon. James Fisher, M.P. for Winnipeg, expressed on behalf of the Canadian delegates, a wish that the reciprocity treaty of 1854 might be renewed. He gave figures to show that Canada was a far greater market for United States products than for English, and that Canada bought millions more than she sold to the United States. The utmost harmony prevailed between delegates from the United States and Canada, and it is evident there is a strong movement to restore just commercial relations between the two countries.
