The Wanganui Chronicle AND PATEA-RANGITIKEI ADVERTISER "NULLA DIES SINE LINEA." WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 13, 1892.
At its meeting last night the Borough Council accepted tenders for the supply of stone, the purchase of punts, and the towing of the same, for the River Bank protection works, and the Foreman of Works will now proceed with the undertaking without any further delay. A little hitch occurred at the previous meeting of the Council, owing to some doubts having been raised, through an opinion received from the Borough solicitors, as to whether the Council could anticipate its revenue by procuring the necessary overdraft for the purpose. Last night all doubts were set at rest, the Council's legal advisers clearly showing that what the Council proposed doing was quite within their powers. The way being made clear, the meeting acted with promptitude, and accepted two highly favourable tenders. It is a matter of regret that the acceptance of one of the tenders involved the resignation of Councillor Hatrick, which was received before the tenders were dea!t with. It will no<r be necessary for the burgesses to select a. suitable representative to fill the vacancy thus caused.
